Welcome to my blog site. I am Kirsten Cox, a photographer based in the beautiful Northern Rivers region of Northern NSW, specialising in photographing weddings and people - that's everything from families, kids, portraits, events, beauty and fashion.

I fell in love with photography about 12 years ago as a young traveller in India. My best friend and travel buddy had an old SLR film camera, gave it to me to try out and I was hooked. When I came home to Australia, I quit my office job and started working as a photographer's assistant and have never looked back.

I kind of fell into photographing weddings. I was taking the path of fashion and advertising photography and worked in that field in Sydney for quite a few years. I met a wedding photographer along the way who needed a second photographer to shoot alongside her occasionally - I thought "Why not?". Turns out I loved it and have been photographing weddings ever since. I'm really, really grateful for my years in fashion and advertising as I worked alongside some masters who taught me all the important technical stuff like understanding light and knowing my camera inside out, and not to mention getting to meet a few famous people along the way!

I love photographing weddings. I love that I get to be a part of one of the biggest, most joyous days in many people's lives and every wedding is unique in its own way. It's a pretty awesome job and I feel privileged to be able to do it.

A couple of years ago I added family, kids and newborn photography to my repertoire. I love photographing parents and their little ones just as much as I love photographing weddings. A family photo shoot with me is never like your stock standard family portrait session and much more like a fun hour or two with the little people kept entertained and their big people relaxed enough to enjoy themselves while I capture the interaction and little moments.

Whilst I live in the Byron Bay region, I also spend a lot of time travelling as part of my job. I often photograph weddings and families in Sydney, Melbourne, Port Douglas and elsewhere across the country. I am also available for international bookings. The way I see it - travel these days is pretty cheap and you only have one opportunity to have the right photographer provide you with the best wedding photos possible.
